Success story from Kichha

On 23rd May 2024 CP and AG leaders from 10 villages organized a Mahasangh meeting at village Kurraiya . There were total 23 leaders from CP and AG groups. During this meeting all the leaders discussed on various issues exists in their respective villages. The most pressing issues like unemployment, domestic violence, and alcoholism were the point of discussion among the leaders. These issues need to be addressed immediately. The most highlighted issue was Alcoholism which was spoiling the youth and men of Satoriya village. The men and youth of Satoriya village consume alcohol daily and are addicted to it. This was so, due to excessive sale of alcohol in the same village by other village members. This was a huge problem in Satoriya village as it leads to crimes like fights, misbehavior towards girls and women, drop outs from the school; divorce among couples and even to the point of community unrest.

Noticing these situations over Satoriya village 38 CP and AG members from 6 villages organized an alcohol free campaign on 21/07/2024 at Satoriya village. Through this campaign the village youth, men and women became aware and felt ashamed of what they are doing. The immediate effect was less consumption of alcohol among youth and men now. Some sellers also have stopped selling as the members have warned them not to sell alcohol in their village or else they would inform the local police. Although it’s not a big deal of a drastic change. However, this was only a small initiative taken by the AG and CP members themselves to spread awareness and conscientize the villagers.
