Success Story - Chaubattia Centre

In the heart of Kheelgar Village, nestled in the Ranikhet district of Uttarakhand, is steeped in heritage and tradition. Previously, women were financially reliant on their spouses. To address this, we introduced the concept of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and their empowering benefits. We successfully established 5 SHGs in the same village, each making remarkable progress collectively and individually and group wise. Monthly meetings provided a platform for SHG women to voice their concerns.

There was a group named ‘Quella’ consists of 10 women in Kheelgar Village, who were initially hesitant about the idea of creating their own individual or group accounts. However, their interest grew as they observed the dedication of our project staff during the monthly Self-Help Group (SHG) meetings held within their community.

One pivotal day, one of the women joined an SHG meeting and was inspired by the unity and lively discussions among the women, as they pooled savings and engaged in insightful conversations. Fueled by this experience, they sought guidance from our worker, and, empowered by the reassurance, took the leap to initiate a group account. This marked a transformative turning point, considering their initial reluctance towards individual accounts.

Notably, the establishment of five groups faced objections from the village community, initially halting the addition of more groups at the block level. However, the tides turned in favor of community support and empowerment, leading to the establishment of a group comprising Ten women opened account at Gramin Bank Chaubattia by the efforts of Suchetna Staff. This positive momentum continued to work effectively as groups for the collective action, representing the remarkable capacity for unity and resilience within the community.
