Misra colony village, located within Pilibhit District, the Suchetna Social Service initiative, operating from the Poliganj Centre, has been making significant strides in community development. The initiative has successfully mobilized various community groups, including, Child Parliaments, Adolescent Girls, and the Village Development Committee (VDC). These groups regularly convene to receive training on leadership, health and hygiene, and skill development, fostering a strong sense of community responsibility and action.
One pressing issue that came to light during a VDC meeting on June 20, 2024, was the deteriorated condition of the government school gate in Misra Colony. The school serves as a crucial educational hub for the village children, yet the damaged gate posed a significant challenge. Local animals frequently entered the school premises, damaging plants, and disrupting the cleanliness and safety of the campus. The community recognized this as a major concern, particularly given the importance of maintaining a safe and conducive environment for the children’s education.
The VDC members, understanding the urgency of the situation, decided to take immediate action. With the cooperation of the school teachers, five VDC members volunteered to take responsibility for the gate’s repair. Among these members was Mr. Mathura Prasad, who played a pivotal role by offering his welding services at his shop to repair the gate and the other members contributed for the material.
On July 11, 2024, the repaired gate was installed at the school, marking a significant improvement in the security and upkeep of the school premises. This effort was a true testament to the power of community collaboration, with local contributions and skills being pooled together to address a critical need.
