In the village of Badapura located in the Amaria Block of Pilibhit District, the drainage and road conditions were extremely poor. The drainage system frequently overflowed, causing the roads to be inundated with water and dirt daily. The unsanitary conditions led to heaps of garbage accumulating on the road, emitting a horrible stench. The presence of dirty flies buzzing around the waste made it difficult for passers-by, posing a significant problem for the community.
Responding to this pressing issue, the proactive members of the Self-Help Group (SHG)—Smt. Geeta Devi, Smt. Vimla Devi, Smt. Sunita Devi, Smt. Chameli Devi, and Smt. Bhagwan Devi—and the Child Parliament members—Pooja, Ansh, Aman, Prajwal, and Aditya—brought the matter to the attention of the Village Development Committee (VDC) on February 3, 2024. Acting swiftly, five members of the VDC—Jayanti Prasad, Jagdev, Raju, Mohan Lal, Tarawati, and Shanti Devi—promptly escalated the issue to the village Pradhan, Shri Mohan Swaroop. In response, the village Pradhan dispatched a cleaning worker to address the problem, resulting in the removal of the garbage and an assurance that the issue would be resolved.
On February 26, 2024, after being approached by members of the SHG and the Child Parliament (CP), the village head confirmed that a proposal had been formulated for the repair of the drainage and pavement, providing reassurance that the matter would be promptly addressed. Following through on this commitment, on March 7, 2024, the pavement bricks were uprooted, and the drainage system was repaired.
Subsequently, on July 22, 2024, the village Pradhan-initiated Road work to address the issues. Now, an RCC road has been constructed, significantly improving the infrastructure, and living conditions in the village.
This success story highlights the power of community action and the significant impact that organized efforts by the SHG and Child Parliament can have on addressing critical issues and improving the quality of life for all household. Special thanks to the Suchetna staff who supported this effort.
